Ferrate Solutions Presents Stormwater Solutions to the Indian River Lagoon Council, STEM Committee
In August, Ferrate Solutions Corp. had the opportunity to present ongoing treatment results for nutrient removal on the Indian River Lagoon to the IRL Council STEM Committee.
After eight months of treating muck dredge water on the IRL, a total of 60,000 pounds (30 TONS) of nitrogen and 3,700 pounds of phosphorus (2 TONS) have been removed.
The presentation also focused on possible stormwater treatment solutions for nutrient contaminated water entering the estuary during storm events.
According to a Florida Institute of Technology study published in 2019, nutrients are concentrated up to 10 times higher during storm events compared to dry-weather flow.
Ferrate could easily be used to treat stormwater being delivered to the IRL and other estuaries though existing drainage canal systems.
